SPRING 2023
We’re offering after school online practice sessions starting the week of September 6. Signups starting January 12th
Classes starting week of February 6
Tuesdays, 5:30 - 6:20pm
Being able to read is essential for playing in any classical ensemble. Students who develop strong sight-reading skills walk into rehearsals with much more ease and confidence, and they save a lot of time and energy as they prepare those parts. The students in the sight-reading class will learn to de-code key signatures, deepen their understanding of meters and rhythms, and practice countless excerpts together. (Violinists ages 12-15).
Wednesdays, 4:30 - 5:20pm
These sessions are for middle school violinists in the Philadelphia public schools. Students will prepare the orchestra repertoire together and work through built-in rhythm-reading practice and tone work to improve their orchestral skills. (For Philadelphia SD middle school violinists)
Thursdays, 4:30 - 5:20pm
In the Book 2 after-school sessions, students will practice Suzuki Book 2 songs together, focusing on bowing and left-hand techniques to help make these favorites easy and fun. This class is for students who want to sound terrific on their Book 2 songs and are ready to develop skills - through scales, bow exercises, etc - to prepare them for Books 3 and 4. (Book 2 violinists)
Thursdays, 5:30 - 6:20pm
This is a class for young students ages 8-11 who are playing repertoire in the Suzuki books 2 or 3. We will approach music theory and ear training from our understanding and use of the fingerboard. Learn how to transform the many years of playing your instrument into an easy and fun way to know key signatures, scales in all keys, accidentals in sight reading, and intervalic thinking. (Violinists age 8 - 11)
